Eliza Ohman is a New York City based performer currently in the Ensemble and Assistant Dance Captain of the Original Broadway Company of King Kong. Previously the Dance Captain and Universal Swing in Hamilton: An American Musical on Broadway, she had the great privilege of working closely with the original creative team and recently assisted in the setting of Hamilton’s 2nd National Tour. As Dance Captain she taught new company members the show, helped run rehearsals for the offstage company, and assisted in the auditions for all four North American productions.
She received her early dance training in Denver, CO and at 15 was chosen to be part of Prof. Robert L. Reed’s elite tap company, the St. Louis Hoofers Club. As a Hoofer, she toured nationally and within one year was selected as the company’s Dance Captain. Through that experience she was able to train closely with tap legends Dr. Jimmy Slyde, Dr. Harold Cromer, Dr. Prince Spencer, and Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, and is humbled to trace her tap lineage to Maceo Anderson of the Four Step Brothers.
After high school she moved to New York City where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Media, Culture, and the Arts from The King’s College and completed the Professional Semester Training Program at Broadway Dance Center. Through BDC’s program, she gained representation from Clear Talent Group and booked her first NYC job in the Ensemble of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
Eliza loves musical theatre, but is equally focused on commercial dance. On screen can be seen in Fosse/Verdon, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, America's Got Talent, and Wendy Seyb’s awarding winning film How You Look At It. She’s been in commercials for Castrol Oil, Macy’s, Reebok, So Danca, and Target, music videos with Carly Rae Jepsen, The Lonely Island, and Justin Bieber, on television with Drake, Jimmy Fallon, John Oliver, Kevin Bacon, Melissa McCarthy, and Nick Cannon, and even modeling at New York Fashion Week for Valentina Kova and Chromat.
Having the honor to work closely with award winning director/choreographers such as Andy Blankenbuehler, Thomas Kail, Drew McOnie, Marguerite Derricks, Susan Misner, Denis Jones, Chase Brock, Michele Lynch, Danielle Flora, Noemie Lafrance, and Linda Haberman has encouraged Eliza to remain as diverse as possible in both her training and teaching. She’s an enthusiastic teacher and focuses on bringing out each student’s individual humanity to the material.
In her freetime she likes to play with her dog Brewer, explore Washington Heights with her husband, and cheer on the Broncos. Follow @elizaohman on Instagram and @eliza_ohman on Twitter to stay up to date on all her adventures.
